A plateau transformed into untouched nature, invaded by cold, heat, rain, wind, muffled rumblings and the scents of plains and deserts. Eric Arnal-Burtshy invites us to reflect on what it would be like to be a tree, a rock or a mountain, to feel the passage of centuries and seasons. What if we were to leave our shells, our technological crutches, our aseptic lives at the door, and instead enter into a porous relationship with nature? What if we stopped thinking of nature as an ornament or a resource, but rather as a whole of which we are a part?

Eric Arnal-Burtschy studied history, philosophy and geopolitics and obtained a Master's degree in European Studies before turning to the performing and visual arts. His work, often driven by research into the physics of the Universe and a questioning of the human being, is presented in numerous venues in Europe and abroad. With Lyllie Rouvière, he created Bouncing Universe in a Bulk, a diptych about the Universe and infinity, and Ciguë, a solo with Clara Furey about freedom and solitude. His latest creation, Deep are the Woods, is an evocation of the void in the form of an immersive piece in which light is the performer. Keen to explore a different kind of relationship with the world, and always interested in diplomatic and strategic issues, he is also a reserve officer in the French army, and took part in Operation Barkhane in the Sahel. This experience led to the creation of his latest show, Why We Fight, a performance that sensitively and politically questions what makes each of us tick and why we fight. He was awarded the prestigious Prix de la Vocation by the Marcel Bleustein-Blanchet Foundation. Associate artist at Halles de Schaerbeek, Brussels Artist in residence at WorkSpaceBrussels Artist in residence at Théâtre de Vanves.

Upon arriving for her residency at the CCN studio CCN Grenoble, with the mountains before her, Ruth Childs thinking about the artists who had passed through—those who had been there before her and those who would come after. She knows some of them very well, others less so, by name or by sight, and still others not at all. She was struck by the lack of connection between them. She wanted to leave a little note of encouragement, a surprise, check in, ask a question about elements she had picked up from their work. But due to a lack of time, caught up in her own work, her thoughts simply materialized as “likes” via social media, a Facebook page, or Instagram.
To combat this lack of exchange, symptomatic of the current era, she draws inspiration from the free, intimate, handwritten correspondence of members of the Judson Church (Steve Paxton, Yvonne Rainer, Lucinda Childs…) to imagine a space-time that allows for correspondence with a small group of artists. A space-time to exchange ideas, ask questions, get lost together, have fun, and share the details of their artistic questions and struggles. These exchanges may be short and spontaneous (like a postcard) or more carefully crafted (like a letter), but should, ideally, be handwritten and sent by mail.
The primary goal of this project is to foster openness and the shared experience of a genuine, long-term exchange. In a second phase, and in agreement with the group, a publication of some or all of the correspondence produced in 2026 could be considered.
