L–matière is a project conceived by Pierre Pontvianne to bring the choreographic material of the quintet *LA LIESSE*— createdin 2025— to life off the stage and share it as closely as possible with audiences. Performed by five dancers, this production unfolds in a light, versatile format, right in the heart of local communities. 

L-matière explores the many facets of jubilation, a feeling often associated with collective joy and shared enthusiasm. Pierre Pontvianne, however, reveals its full complexity: here, jubilation appears as a shifting state that arises, transforms, and fades away. The piece oscillates between dazzling ensemble choreography and the intensity of suspended moments—“outside of jubilation”—which lend it a sense of intimacy and a unique emotional resonance. Through a rare sense of closeness with the performers, the audience is invited to perceive the subtlest nuances of this choreographic material, which brings to the surface the full emotional richness of jubilation—from its collective outbursts to its most intimate resonances.

A 1999 winner of the Prix de Lausanne, Pierre Pontvianne built an international career before founding the PARC company in Saint-Étienne in 2004. His works are regularly featured at festivals and on major contemporary dance stages (Montpellier Danse, Théâtre de la Ville de Paris, Lyon Dance Biennale, etc.), and have been incorporated into the repertoires of prestigious companies such as the Lyon National Opera Ballet and Ballet BC in Vancouver. An associate artist at the Dôme Théâtre in Albertville from 2025 to 2027, he sums up his approach as follows: “I seek neither meaning nor wonder; I seek the point where the two collide.”

The PARC company designs its workshops as opportunities for creativity and exchange, in connection with Pierre Pontvianne’s choreographic research. During this workshop, we will go through a phase focused on developing an awareness of the various foundations of contemporary dance. In another phase, we will explore the importance of movement and rhythm in space through various choreographic elements found in L-matière.

The performance will be followed by a discussion with the artistic team.
