With the choreographic series *Histoire(s) Décoloniale(s)*, Betty Tchomanga continues her exploration of narratives and stories that connect the West and Africa. Each episode examines colonial history and its legacy through the lens of a unique story, a body, and a lived experience.

Histoire(s) Décoloniale(s) #Folly draws on the oral tradition of stories told in the form of parables. The choreography for this portrait is based on traditional rhythms and dances from Benin, Togo, and Ghana. Using only his voice and the stomps of his feet as instruments, Folly brings to life the dances that dwell within him.

“Folly Romain Azaman is a percussionist, singer, and dancer who grew up immersed in the culture and spirituality of Beninese Voodoo. We met for the first time in 2021 in Cotonou, Benin. Together, we share dances, songs, and stories connected both to the history of the Kingdom of Dahomey (in the south of present-day Benin) and to the Voodoo cult. What is Voodoo? What worldviews do the beliefs and practices associated with it convey? What stories can be brought to life through rhythm?” Betty Tchomanga
