Aina Alegre explores the concept of SWING—a central theme in her work—with the Jeune Ballet. Swing is at once a rhythmic quality, a jazz genre, and a style of partner and group dance, but it is also the English translation of the word “ ” meaning “to sway.” The concepts of balance, rhythm, weight, and counterweight are at the heart of this creation. It also draws on movements such as walking, running, and jumping as the driving forces of the choreography to compose a piece that reveals the group as an energetic, rhythmic entity characterized by the interdependence of bodies.
