"Le Salon" is a podcast series created by Enora Rivière and dedicated to preserving and celebrating choreographic memory through the voices of dancers. Each episode offers an immersive journey into the heart of a work through the stories of those who have performed it, exploring the intimate relationship that develops between the body, movement, and artistic creation.

In contrast to an exclusively visual approach to dance, this project invites audiences to experience the works through the memories, sensations, imaginations, and experiences of their performers. By giving a voice to dancers—who are often overlooked—Le Salon contributes to the recognition of their expertise and to the creation of an oral history of dance. Through storytelling, dialogue, and reminiscence, it offers insightful and educational perspectives on the work of the performers and the creation of the pieces. At the intersection of sound creation, artistic transmission, and documentary research, Le Salon is gradually building a sound atlas of dance, spanning eras, aesthetics, and regions. The project thus contributes to the preservation, dissemination, and renewal of the narratives that make up the living history of the choreographic arts. Conceived also as a tool for cultural mediation, the series makes works and creative processes accessible to a broad audience, including those who are geographically distant from venues for the performing arts.

Enora Rivière is a dancer, choreographer, writer, critic, researcher, dramaturg, and audio-describer for dance. Trained at the Conservatoire de Tours, Paris 8 University, and the ex.er.c.e program at the CCN in Montpellier, she went on to collaborate as a performer and dramaturg with numerous European artists. Since 2013, as part of the association Le Salon, she has been developing projects that combine choreographic creation and writing. This approach has given rise to works such as *ob.scène*, *moteur*, and *manifestement*, as well as their literary counterparts: *ob.scène*—a fictional account of a dancer’s life; *moteurs*—*a coronation*; and *the invisible fingers*. Based in Montreal from 2017 to 2025, she conducted doctoral research-creation at UQAM, collaborated with several artists, wrote for *Le Devoir* and the magazine *Liberté*, and established the first audio-description center for dance at Danse-Cité.

Upon arriving for her residency at the CCN studio CCN Grenoble, with the mountains before her, Ruth Childs thinking about the artists who had passed through—those who had been there before her and those who would come after. She knows some of them very well, others less so, by name or by sight, and still others not at all. She was struck by the lack of connection between them. She wanted to leave a little note of encouragement, a surprise, check in, ask a question about elements she had picked up from their work. But due to a lack of time, caught up in her own work, her thoughts simply materialized as “likes” via social media, a Facebook page, or Instagram.

To combat this lack of exchange, symptomatic of the current era, she draws inspiration from the free, intimate, handwritten correspondence of members of the Judson Church (Steve Paxton, Yvonne Rainer, Lucinda Childs…) to imagine a space-time that allows for correspondence with a small group of artists. A space-time to exchange ideas, ask questions, get lost together, have fun, and share the details of their artistic questions and struggles. These exchanges may be short and spontaneous (like a postcard) or more carefully crafted (like a letter), but should, ideally, be handwritten and sent by mail.

The primary goal of this project is to foster openness and the shared experience of a genuine, long-term exchange. In a second phase, and in agreement with the group, a publication of some or all of the correspondence produced in 2026 could be considered.
