The sound installation *PerformaPhone P&D: Speakers in Sneakers*, created by Gretchen Schiller and , brings together a series of 24 interviews with amateur dancers who participated in Aina Alegre’s performance *PARADES & DÉSOBÉISSANCES*, presented at the Palais des Sports in Grenoble in June 2024.
During the performance, feet pounded the floor; in the installation, it is the sneakers that speak, recounting how the experience of dancing in this work influenced the kinesthetic sensitivity of the 100 participating amateur dancers.
This project, developed as part of the Écouter le terrain initiative and the Performance Lab, is funded by the Ministry of Culture—CNRS-Litt&ArtsFramework Agreement, co-directed with Séverine Ruset—and by Listening to Performance, an IDEX project co-directed with Nathalie Henrich Bernardoni.
Gretchen Schiller is a researcher in choreography, a professor, and a principal investigator at the University of Grenoble Alpes. Her research focuses on embodied action and kinesthetic awareness through participatory installations, on-screen dance, performances, and workshops. She directs the Arts in the Alps project as well as the UGA’s Federal Research-Creation Structure, and currently co-directs the second edition of the Performance Laboratory, “Listening to Performance.” She also leads the RESCAM project, which brings together more than 20 French universities. Born in Canada and raised in Brazil, Colombia, and Australia, she holds a bachelor’s degree in dance from the University of Calgary, a master’s degree in choreography from UCLA, and a Ph.D. from the University of Plymouth.
